There is an apparent Wikipedia gender war about Garfield...yes you read correctly, the cartoon cat.
Notwithstanding the cartoon creator's comments below indicating that Garfield is intended to be a neutral character, this seems to have struck a chord with some hard-core fans.
This has exposed how restrictive and ultimately pointless society's traditional view of gender is.
Frankly, why does it matter if Garfield is a male, female, transgender, or gender queer? It does not bode well that people care so much about categorising and labelling Garfield.
How can we hope for society to embrace a more liberal approach to gender identity for humans when we get hung up on the gender of a fictional feline...?
People are arguing over whether the cartoon cat Garfield is a girl cat or a boy cat or an undefinable cat. Garfield’s creator, Jim Davis, was interviewed by Mental Floss two years ago. In the interview, he said: "Garfield is very universal. By virtue of being a cat, really, he’s not really male or female or any particular race or nationality, young or old."
