It is pleasing to see how proactive and encouraging the CBI has been with its members about Brexit. Eversheds Sutherland has conducted an extensive survey asking how businesses are responding to some of Brexit’s key commercial and legal issues.

Areas of focus included:

- Business and legal planning

- The nature of the UK’s future relationship with the EU

- How business is responding to the opportunities and challenges raised by Brexit

Around 200 responses were received from Chief Executives, Chairmen, Managing Directors, Finance Directors and General Counsel from businesses of every type and size including some of the UK’s leading organisations. Their views represent a broad range of sectors and paint a balanced picture of the UK's response to Brexit's questions, challenges and opportunities.

A key message of the report is that businesses are not doing enough to prepare for Brexit - since the referendum, 80% of respondents said they have not taken any further steps to be ‘Brexit ready’, opting instead for a ‘wait and see’ approach. This is despite 96% saying Brexit is on the agenda at their senior/board level. With the Brexit process about to begin, the time to plan is now.

Our survey responses and findings have been collated into a report. This includes tips on what businesses should be doing now to prepare for Brexit and an opportunity to benchmark your Brexit planning and forecasts against other leading organisations.
